Aim: To reaserch and brainstorm the needs and desires of my target audience within Brighton so i can appeal to them effectively in my practical work

According to my survey results, which things in life do my target audience prioritise?

According to my questionnaire, the majority of my questioners said out of 6 questions that their most prioritised activity in chronological order.
  1. Gaming
  2. Internet
  3. Sports
  4. Music
  5. Relax
  6. Other
Which response surprised me and why?

The response that surprised me the most the question ' What Magazine Would You Prefer?'
this surprised me because earlier in the questionnaire, I asked the question ' What Genre Of Music Do You Prefer' and the majority answered Hip hop then later when I asked the  ' What Magazine Would You Prefer?' the majority answered Nme which is a indie magazine when expected Hip hop.

What did I wish I had asked but I didn't?

I wish I asked about what magazine cover they would prefer, if I did that it would help me towards what design of magazine front cover I would make.

Which aspects of the Brighton music scene do I need to research the most?

Because I am doing a Hip hop magazine I would need to research on the Hip hop scene and influence in Brighton.

How I imagine my target audience

Wednesday, 18 September 2013

Aim: To anylyse music magazines, considering how their genre isconveyed and the typical features of a front cover.

Music Magazine I Have Heard Of:
XXL
Kerrang!
Mojo
MixMag

Music Magazine I Have Read/Bought
XXL

 Magazine Name: THE SOURCE

 Publisher: L.Londell McMillan

Target Audience: I think the target audience is people interested in Hip Hop. It has quite a lot of explicit photos so its defiantly a 18+ magazine. Also their are a lot of pictures of cars and adverts about smoking, I think this is good because most Hip Hop influenced people tend to smoke and drive flashy cars. Another thing is that it is a very sexual orientated magazine also confirming that its for an adult audience.-

 Genre: Hip Hop

Main Artists Featured: Ludacris,  Ghostface Killah, Nas, Ice Cube

A Selection Of Article Subjects: Ludacris interview, Ghostface Killah interview Sexology

The importance of advertising

Advertising is a favourable representation of a product to make consumers, customers and general public aware of the product. It lets the potential buyers, general public and end users to be aware and familiar with the brands, their goods and services.

Advertising also creates goodwill and helps in building a brands image in the market.
Repeated advertisements makes brands very popular. Generally, people tend to show a more trustworthy attitude towards advertised brands over non advertised ones. Well known branded products are usually made from high quality raw materials, hence they are always preferred by most  consumers.

Aim: To consider how magazine staff are divided in terms oftheirskills. To identify which skills are needed to do particular jobsinthepublishing industry.

The Publishing Sector In The UK

The Publishing industry employs over 195,000 people, representing approximatly 36% of the crative media workforce.
  • 51,000 people employed in the news paper sector
  • 50,500 work in journals and magazines
  • 33,000 in the book industry
  • 12,000 in other information service activities

The magazine I compared this with was NME. The jobs listed are different because NME has a lot more sections in their departments, meaning that NME work is a lot more spread around the business, putting less pressure on the individual workers.

What do you think are the responsibilities of a chief editor?

 Setting section budgets
Leads meetings
Attends functions, events and award ceremonies
Legal decisions
Build up contacts and connections
Strategic planning
Manages careers of present and new staff, motivating team
Lipase with the publisher, marketing depts, media sales team and PR agencies
Occasional column writing/ editorial piece
Represent the magazine and take full responsibility for all mistakes
